At Bike Tours for The Wounded we run what we believe is the opportunity for Wounded, Injured and Sick (WIS) Service Personnel and Veterans to have a life changing experience through the medium of motorcycle pillion riding. These adventures are not jollies, they are not for everyone and they can be tough on both body and mind. To be accepted on a pillion funded place you will need to be willing and wanting a rewarding life challenge experience along the historic Route 66. This Amazing challenge visits some of the most iconic attractions on America’s “Mother Road” Route 66. (States visited are; California, Nevada and Arizona).

As a tour rider you have a unique opportunity to help and support these brave men and women achieve their challenge whilst you fulfill one of your motorcycling ambitions.

2017 Tour Itinerary


Day 1: Arrive in Las Vegas, Nevada


Welcome to our day of preparation for the exciting Route 66 Motorcycle Tour.  This once in a lifetime journey, with it’s unique riding experience, along the most famous two-lane highway in America, could change your life for the better.

Your opportunity to visit with new friends, the experience of a legendary road featured in many iconic films and television shows like the one highlighted by Billy Connolly recently.  The sights and sounds of a history long forgotten by the modern age, along with the vastly diverse scenery of a landscape most have never seen, will remind us of days gone by.


Day 2: Las Vegas to Victorville

The first day of our challenge takes us via Boulder City with a stop for breakfast at the world famous “Coffee Cup” restaurant. We then head south though Search Light for an interesting outer space encounter in the town of Baker. Continuing South West we travel to the historic town of Barstow Where we join the original Route 66 which takes us to Victorville and the fantastic Route 66 museum. You will get to experience the true history of this historic road.


Day 3: Victorville to Victorville

Today’s ride takes us though the town of Rightwood located in a pine covered valley in the San Gabriel Mountains. We then snake our way over the Angeles Mountains for 67 miles of riding heaven until we reach La Cañada Flintridge in California for a spot of lunch.

We then head back along this amazing route in to opposite direction back to the hotel in Victorville for a well-earned rest.


Day 4: Victorville to Borrego Springs, California

We have a stunning days ride ahead of us as we first travel to the Spanish mission of San Juan Capistrano. We then ride towards the town of Julian which is an official California Historical Landmark.  After a break we head off to Borrego Springs which is completely surrounded by Anza-Borrego State Park, the largest of California’s State Parks. The town keeps night time lighting to a minimum to protect the views of the night sky.

Day 5: Borrego Springs to Blyth

We will have a day of snaking through the mountain passes until we reach the town of Mecca we will then ride past the Salton sea towards the start of the San Andreas Fault line which is the most famous fault in the world. Its notoriety comes partly from the disastrous 1906 San Francisco earthquake.

As we ride though a baron wilderness misshapen by earthquakes and flash floods until we reach the city of Blythe which is located near the California/Arizona border in the Colorado Desert section of the Sonoran Desert.

Day 6: Blythe to Heber Heber-Overgaard

Today’s ride is not for the faint hearted…. As we leave California, we head into Arizona where we will feel the temperatures rise as we ride north of Phoenix and Scottsdale to Fountain Hills where we take a well-deserved break for lunch.

The afternoon is packed full of some of the most spectacular views as we climb and descend some breath taking mountain ranges.  It is not uncommon to have eagles souring above us as we ride.  We will take a stop to allow you to have your photo taken alongside huge cacti at the side of the road.  Our day will end with views of snow covered mountains and forests.

Day 7: Heber to Holbrook via the Salt River Canyon, Arizona

We have a surprise in store for you as the group heads north for a ride through the Salt River Canyon where you will be astounded by its natural beauty.  You will experience a number of iconic Route 66 sights and landmarks in the afternoon as we take time to enjoy the beauty of the landscape.  We then head off to see the wigwam motel for an evening with a difference.

Day 8: Holbrook to Williams via the Grand Canyon, Arizona

An early start takes us to the town of Winslow for a great photo opportunity and chance to pick up some Route 66 souvenirs.  From there we head off to Flagstaff for a light lunch.  After lunch we enjoy a ride down through Oak Creek Canyon, Sedona and Jerome National Park, we then ride north again to visit the Grand Canyon before ending the days ride at one of the most iconic Route 66 towns called Williams for an evening of entertainment and food.

Day 9: Williams to Las Vegas, Nevada

This morning we head west to the historic ghost town of Seligman where we will ride along old Route 66 for an early lunch at a classic old Route 66 Diner in Kingman.  After lunch, we take in the amazing town of Oatman before landing in Las Vegas for the afternoon and evening of fun and where enjoy a celebration meal together whilst reflecting on the weeks achievement’s.


Day 10: Finally taking the morning to enjoy what Las Vegas has to offer before flying home.


Day 11: Arrival back into London Gatwick


Your Route 66 Tour includes the following:

  • 9 nights hotels / motels.
  • All group breakfasts, lunch and evening meals at each stop.
  • Admission fees to all museums and National Parks (on our scheduled route).
  • Any tolls, parking fees (any gratuities are additional).
  • The tour will be guided by our Route 66 veterans who will give daily summaries and talk about the history of Route 66.
  • Transfers to and from the airport and hotel.
  • Motorcycle rental and the required liability insurance.
  • All fuel and oil for your motorcycle.
  • There will be two tour guides (riding with you) and two support vehicles with us at all times with a spare bike, your luggage and our supplies.
  • Roadside Assistance.
  • Water, soft drinks and snacks throughout each day.
