Hi I’m Darren,
Like many others, I volunteer my time working with Bike Tours for the Wounded whilst juggling my full time job.
The idea of taking Wounded, Injured and Sick (WIS) service personnel and veterans on these potentially life changing challenges was conceived back in 2010 whilst riding a Harley Davidson Road King along Route 66. Despite almost 2 years of knock backs and negativity around the idea we took our first six WIS on a motorcycle challenge along the Pacific Coast Highway from San Diego all the way up Route 1 to Seattle.
This is when Bike Tours for the Wounded C.I.C (None Profit Company) was initially formed in the United Kingdom as a method of funding the places for the service personnel and veterans enabling them to have the opportunity of attending one of these trips of a lifetime at no cost to themselves.
Over these 5 years, Bike Tours for the Wounded (UK) has taken in excess of 250 WIS on tour in the US and to Normandy on D-Day. A huge part of the success of the last five years has been the support and involvement of many individuals (now friends) from various US veteran organisations. I am extremely proud and honored to have Bike Tours for the Wounded operating in its own right in the United States of America. This now provides greater opportunities for our wounded, injured and sick “brothers in arms” which I believe will support their ongoing recovery.
